Exciting news for history buffs and culture enthusiasts! The Honmaru-goten Palace at Nijo-jo Castle in Kyoto, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is set to reopen on September 1 after a 17-year closure. Thanks to a 1.56 billion yen investment by the city, the palace has undergone extensive renovations to strengthen its earthquake resilience and restore its breathtaking paintings.

For the first time in over a decade, visitors will have year-round access to this historic gem, which dates back to the Edo Period and showcases original works by the renowned Kano school artists. From its origins in the 17th century to its relocation in the late 19th century, the palace holds centuries of history within its walls.

To secure your spot, make sure to book your reservation in advance and set aside a separate fee of 1,000 yen in addition to the regular castle entrance fee of 800 yen. Ticket sales will open on August 2 through the Nijo-jo Castle website at https://nijo-jocastle.city.kyoto.lg.jp/?lang=en. Don't miss this unique opportunity to step back in time and explore the beauty of Honmaru-goten Palace!
