Exciting news for all cyclists! Starting now, you can bring your bikes on the weekend and holiday trains on the JR Joban Line between Ueno Station in Tokyo and Tsuchiura Station in Ibaraki Prefecture. This regular service of the Cycle Train is a result of the high demand from cyclists like you.
Previously, the Cycle Train was only available for a limited time as part of a tourism campaign, but now it's here to stay. More than 400 cyclists have already taken advantage of this service, and now it's your turn!
You can catch the outbound Cycle Train from Ueno Station at 7:02 a.m. and 7:53 a.m., arriving at Tsuchiura Station at 8:06 a.m. and 9:08 a.m. respectively. The inbound service leaves Tsuchiura Station at 5 p.m. and 5:28 p.m., arriving back at Ueno Station at 6:11 p.m. and 6:33 p.m.
No need to worry about extra fees - you can bring your unbagged bicycles on the No. 14 and 15 cars, each accommodating up to five bikes. Plus, Tsuchiura Station is conveniently connected to a cycling facility with changing rooms, showers, and more, making it easy for you to explore Lake Kasumigaura and Mount Tsukubasan on day trips.
Let's spread the word and make the most of this fantastic opportunity to experience the joys of cycling in Ibaraki. Don't miss out - make your reservations up to two weeks in advance at: (https://www.jreast.co.jp/mito/jobancycletrain/). Happy cycling! 🚴♂️🚴♀️
