Exciting news from Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture! Matsumoto Castle, a majestic feudal fortress and national treasure in Japan, had a fantastic Golden Week with a record number of foreign visitors. During the April 27 to May 6 break, an average of 411 non-Japanese tourists visited the castle each day, which is a 1.5 times increase from last year.
Visitors from the United States, Europe, and various Asian nations and regions all flocked to Matsumoto Castle, with a total of 251 from the US and Europe and 160 from Asia. This surge in interest can be attributed to the city government's efforts to promote the castle on social media with foreign language hashtags.
Many visitors were captivated by the stunning scenery and the convenience of the castle's location, just a short distance from Tokyo and easily accessible from a train station. While foreign visitors accounted for 9.2 percent of all visitors this year, the overall visitor numbers remained steady at 4,455 per day, similar to last year's figures.
Although we have yet to reach pre-pandemic levels of visitors, the enthusiasm for Matsumoto Castle is undeniable. Let's continue to spread the word and invite more people to experience the beauty and history of this incredible national treasure. Plan your visit today and be part of the magic at Matsumoto Castle!
